GMEN RECEIVES 2.5 MILLION DOLLAR GRANT FROM SBA FOR SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORT SERVICES

Georgia Community Organizations to Benefit from GMEN Grant

ATLANTA, GA (December 1, 2021) – At a press conference scheduled for Friday, December 3, 2021, at 11 a.m., the Georgia Micro Enterprise Network (GMEN) will award grants totaling $100,000 each to partner community-based organizations. Check presentations will take place at the RICE RUSSELL Bldg., (Makers Space), 504 Fair Street, SW, Atlanta, GA  30313. GMEN was announced as a recipient of a 2.5-million-dollar Tier 2 grant from the Small Business Administration Community Navigator Pilot Program. The two-year Community Navigator Pilot Program will help level the playing field for America’s entrepreneurs, especially underserved women, people of color, veterans, rural and low-income communities. The total $100 million-dollar initiative, administered by the Small Business Administration will help a total of 51 organizations acting as hubs to connect small businesses with federal resources. These organizations will work with hundreds of local groups to connect America’s entrepreneurs to government resources so they can recover and thrive. “The main goal is to increase the support of training and technical assistance to underserved small businesses in Georgia via outreach using a community navigator model. We plan to provide support to an additional 500 disadvantaged entrepreneurs in Georgia and provide over $1 million in additional capital support to Georgia’s disadvantaged businesses,” according to Elizabeth Wilson, GMEN Executive Director.   

Check presentations to organizations receiving $100,000 grants will be made to:  Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs (RICE), Albany Community Together (ACT), Southwest Georgia United (SWGAU); Invest Atlanta (IA), Operation Hope (OH), Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GHCC), Allen Entrepreneurial Institute (AEI) and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce (MACC), the  City of Atlanta Immigrant Office (COAIO) is also a spoke organization. Invited guests and speakers will include Mark Madrid, Associate Administrator, Office of Entrepreneurial Development and other representatives from SBA, State and City Representatives and GMEN Board members. Parking will be available.

The Georgia Micro Enterprise Network is a non-profit industry membership association that is a catalyst for economic development in Georgia and the Southeast. Through its network of business development and training organizations, GMEN acts as a resource to support and fund viable microbusinesses in an effort to create new jobs and business opportunities.
